Private messages inside the family
Messaging is part of Hamdam Plus, and the check is made on each person's own device.
The people you can message are exactly the people already in your family, so there is no address book, no account and nobody to add.
Each conversation is between two people. What you write, and any voice message, is sealed on your device for the one person it is for, so neither Apple nor Hamdam can read it, and nor can the rest of your family.
Step by step
Open Roots. The messages row appears only once your family is shared.

On the Your Family Story card, tap Family messages. Without Hamdam Plus the row carries a lock and opens the plans screen.
Choose who to write to.
Write something, or record a voice message, and send it. A message shows when it is sent, delivered and seen. One that failed stays on screen: tap it to try again.
Press and hold somebody else's message to report it or to block them.
Worth knowing
- You can write only to people who have opened Hamdam on their own device and said which person in the family they are. Until then the screen says so.
- The rest of your family can see that two of you wrote to each other, but not the words.
- Filter offensive language is on by default. A message that might contain offensive words stays covered until you tap it, and you are asked before sending one. The check happens only on your device.
- Reporting opens an email to Hamdam that you send yourself. It carries the message's identifier and the sender's name, not the words.
- Blocking hides someone's messages on this device only, and can be undone.
- If you move to a new device with iCloud Keychain off, older messages stay sealed and will not open.
- You can read your conversations on the Apple Watch too. Writing is on your iPhone or iPad.
