What stays on your device
Hamdam has no accounts, no sign-up, no password and no email collection. It has no server that receives what you write, which is why there is nothing to breach and nothing to recover.
Everything that reads your health, location, calendar or music is off until you turn it on, and each is its own switch rather than one blanket permission. Two conveniences start on: your reflections in your device's search and, with Hamdam Plus, iCloud sync.
Hamdam 2.0 puts other people in the app, so the promise is about what stays yours. Your reflections and favourites stay in your own private storage. The people in a family you share see the family, and never those.
Step by step
Read the privacy policy. Section five lists every host the app contacts, and section seven covers deleting your data.
Review what you have turned on in Your Hamdam, under Wellbeing, Weather, Sync and Content.

For permissions iOS owns, use the Settings app: Privacy and Security, then Health, Location Services, Calendars, Microphone, Camera, Speech Recognition, Photos, Media and Apple Music, or Motion and Fitness, then Hamdam.
Worth knowing
- Reflections are written on your device, either by Apple Intelligence or from a pre-written library. No text is sent anywhere to generate them.
- Health readings stay on your device, and Health permission stays with the device that granted it.
- A recording in Ask an Elder is transcribed on your device by Apple's speech recognition. The first time you transcribe in a language, iOS can download Apple's speech model for it, but the audio itself is never sent anywhere to be transcribed.
- Family members join through Apple's own iCloud sharing, so Hamdam never sees their email address or phone number. A shared family is held in the iCloud account of the person who started it, and Hamdam cannot read it.
- Family messages are encrypted on the sender's device, and only the sender and the person they were sent to can open them: not Hamdam, and not anyone else in the family. Who sent each message, to whom and when is stored without that encryption, so conversations can be delivered in order.
- The offensive language filter in family messages runs entirely on your device and sends nothing anywhere.
- Apart from Apple, the services Hamdam contacts are Wikipedia and Wikimedia, iNaturalist and date.nager.at, for reference text, photographs and holiday dates. Nothing about you, your reflections or your health is included in those requests.
- The Kiosk in the Garden is the one place Hamdam fetches from sites you chose: each publication's feed comes straight from that publisher, with no account or identifier attached.
- Hamdam carries no analytics, advertising or crash reporting SDK, and nothing that collects personal data on Hamdam's behalf. The only crash data is Apple's own iOS crash reporting, aggregated and anonymised.
