Asking Hafez: the faal
The faal is free and unlimited for every reader who is offered it.
Fal-e Hafez is an old Iranian ritual: you hold a question in mind, open the Divan, and read the poem your hand finds as an answer.
Hamdam keeps the shape of it. The book is the whole interaction: closed, it is the Divan, and when you hold it, it opens on your answer. The faal used to sit at the top of Roots. It has moved to the Mind coach in the Garden, and it is the same faal with the same daily count.
It appears for readers with a Persian connection: anyone reading Hamdam in Farsi, or anyone whose birth country is Iran, Afghanistan or Tajikistan.
Step by step
Open the Garden.

Tap the Mind coach. The first time you open a coach it asks you one question, which you can answer or skip.
On the coach's page, find the Hafez Faal card below the plan.

Hold your question in mind. Typing it is optional: the field under the book can be left empty, and the intention is what counts.
Type your question, or leave empty...سؤالت را بنویس، یا خالی بگذار...
Hold the book to open it, and read what comes back.

Ask Again closes the book so the ritual can start over.

Worth knowing
- Reading in Farsi, the answer is the whole ghazal, set on the page. Reading in English, you get the verse in translation.
- From 2.1 the faal is unlimited on every tier: open the book as often as you like.
- A cultural moment such as Mehregan offers Ask Hafez among the things it can do for that day, and that link brings you here.
- The Apple Watch has a faal of its own on its Roots page, for the same readers, and it is unlimited too.
